TONIGHT!

Wherever You Are 3

 Art & Dream
The images of art and the images of dreams are at least cousins, if they are not more closely related. Knowing one kind helps you appreciate the other. Both reveal something of the vast, deep, and potent life that lies beneath the surface of awareness, those themes and structures that shape  our personal and social lives. Just as dreams can be valuable guides to the individual, works of art keep society in touch with its depths. This lecture is a brief lesson in how to look at art and how to work with dreams.

"Spirituality and Care of the Soul in Psychotherapy"

July 11 - 15, 2011
New England Educational Institute, Cape Cod

Whether you are a mental health or medical professional, your main job is to heal wounded hearts, minds, and bodies. This symposium will focus on the calling to help people in physical, emotional, and spiritual trouble. Participants will reflect on their own spiritual journeys and explore ways of meditation and contemplation. They will learn the difference between soul and spirit and see how they can blend psychological counseling with spiritual guidance. The shadow elements in psychotherapy and spirituality will be examined both personally and theoretically. The role of dreams and the arts in therapy will also be explored. finally, participants will consider ways to care for themselves spiritually and emotionally and prepare themselves as persons for the deep work of psychotherapy.
In this symposium, Thomas Moore will offer a way to practice therapy with a rich and positive philosophy to life while including paradoxes and challenges.

May 2011

I have just completed several weeks of travel that took me to Dublin, London, Toronto, New York and Albuquerque. In each place I met remarkable people serving their communities with the values I have sketched out in my books on the soul. I have been touched by many who tell me that my books inspired them to change their lives and be creative and community-minded. I have also been hard at work preparing two new book proposals, one inspired by Henry David Thoreau at Walden Pond and the other a book that presents a code of life for young people. Iʼve abandoned my attempts to get my autobiographical book Zen Catholic published, and I have a few possibilities for my translation of the Gospels. My stepson Abe has helped me prepare a new web site that should be up in a couple of weeks, and Iʼve written an app calendar based on Care of the Soul. I hope to see you at one of the events listed here for the coming months.

"From Religion to Spirituality"
The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat
Led by Thomas Moore and Hari Kirin Kaur Khalsa

Many of us began our lives within the confines of an institutional religion where the emphasis was on keeping the rules, not deviating from the teachings, and increasing membership. But over time, our experiences and secular learnings have changed us. Now we want a more personally relevant, positive, less moralistic approach. This workshop is for anyone who is trying to sort out religious tradition from a spiritual path.

This weekend we will deepen out connection to spiritual life through yoga, meditation, and chant. We will ground our practice through self-inquiry, lecture, discussion, and creative-arts exercises where we'll get to choose music, art, writing, and movement. No previous yoga experience required.
